After several days of feeling scurried and hurried, even after finishing up with school last week, I realized that I need more structured time to relax and wind down.
Today I walked a block and a half to Barnsdall Park, a small park on a hill overlooking our neighborhood, the Hollywood Hills, and the greater LA basion. The park is high enough that the sounds of the streets were a bit more distant. There is less pavement and more grass and flowers. Other than a few people from the landscaping crew and a few people writing, reading, and taking pictures, it was rather calm and empty.
I laid on the grass for a few hours and read a book, dozing off a few times only to wake up and realize that I am on vacation for a little bit and that’s okay. No deadlines, no papers, no reason to rush. Not for a while, at least.
